HARDIN COUNTY KOREAN WAR VETERAN HELPED BY TENNESSEE HOMELESS SOLUTIONS AND COMMUNITY OF PEOPLE!

Mr. Earl Roberts, or Bill as he likes to be called, is an 82-year-old Korean War era Veteran living in Hardin County, TN. He is a very pleasant person that leaves a lasting impression on everyone who meets him. You would never guess that just months ago this man was days away from living in the streets.

Mr. Roberts has no family in the area and lives on a very small fixed income. Unforeseen medical expenses caused Mr. Roberts to fall behind on his rent. He was facing eviction and had no other resources to prevent it from happening.

That is when his little Maltese may have saved his life. Mr. Roberts neighbor had taken a liking to his little dog and would often come and walk him due to Mr. Roberts not being in the best of health. One day, the neighbor noticed several bills including an eviction notice. When Mr. Roberts was asked about them, he told the neighbor that he had no way to prevent his eviction.

The neighbor did a little research and contacted Tennessee Homeless Solutions (THS). He was quickly enrolled into the West Tennessee Support Services for Veterans Families program (SSVF). The SSVF Case Worker immediately responded and within days was able to prevent his eviction. The crisis was resolved for the time being, and Mr. Roberts was very relieved that he was not going to be homeless. After seeing all the details of his life and just how precarious his financial situation was, the Case Worker knew something else needed to take place to insure Mr. Roberts’ housing stability.

The SSVF Case Worker was able to assist Mr. Roberts in locating and securing federally subsidized housing that would be based on his income. While researching community resources, the Case Worker was able to locate a local motorcycle club who provided all the manpower, transportation, and moving expenses for Mr. Roberts.

Through the help and support received from THS, SSVF, the Hardin County Community, friends, and a local motorcycle club, Mr. Roberts was provided with permanent housing and is living with his little Maltese.

Mr. Earl (Bill) Roberts,

Thank you for your service to this great country!
